What goes around… features a series of domed discs formed with discarded copper from printmaking, giving new life to scraps of material. It comments on our relationship with consumerism, tackling issues of sustainability in this era of disposability. The domes symbolise consumption, with their capacity to hold a never ending accumulation of stuff.
But as we delve deeper they offer another option. Some remain empty, reflecting only respect for the natural environment through their textural patterns. Others are open at the bottom, exploring a more circular approach, where what we take flows back to where it comes from, to be used again and again, with no waste generated. The cradle to cradle theme is extended to the organic layout, conveying a sense of flow and movement, critiquing our linear model of production. This brooch highlights the importance of circularity in preserving our natural systems.
